 Lewis T. Stevens was born in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Utah as a member of Phi Beta Kappa in 1972, and received his Juris Doctor in 1975 from Yale Law School.  Mr. Stevens was a Note editor for the Yale Law Journal, and showed his penchant for complex business legal matters with the publication of his note, "Class Actions Under the Truth in Lending Act."

Upon completing law school, Lew Stevens passed the Bar in California, where he worked with the global business law firm O'Melveny & Myers.  In 1981, he returned to his home state of Utah, gained admittance to practice law there, and continued his work in business law as a partner in the firm Greene, Callister, Nebeker. He later was the co-founder of Van Wagoner & Stevens.

Mr. Stevens came to Texas in 2001 to pursue his passion for raising and showing cutting horses.  He acquired his third state bar admission and joined Fort Worth law firm WarnerStevens, LLP, as a partner.  His practice focused on corporate bankruptcy, transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial litigation.


Since 2010, Lew Stevens has run his own law office.  While continuing the firm's focus on business law, litigation and transactions, his experience and contacts in Texas have led to expanding the business practice to include equine, ranch and agricultural law.

Mr. Stevens' experience includes representation of Fortune 50 companies.  Mr. Stevens also represents small businesses with issues including business formation, contracts and disputes.  Mr. Stevens' representation of individuals ranges from serving as general counsel to high wealth individuals, to helping form new businesses in areas including medical devices, oil pipeline and storage facilities, energy services, entertainment and fitness venues, and ranch and livestock programs.

Mr. Stevens is a regular attendee at the Annual National Conference on Equine Law, hosted by the University of Kentucky School of Law.  In 2012, 2014, and 2016, he was a presenter at the Law Conference, speaking on the subject of equine cloning.  Please click here to read Mr. Stevens' 2016 presentation.

Mr. Stevens is also a professional mediator and has enjoyed particular success mediating equine and ranch disputes.
